Touching people

1. What do you think about this project and photo essay?
This project is actually really great. It's good that someone is making a project like this. I think that this project will do good on showing people that they shouldn't be uncomfortable with strangers ; yes they might be strangers and what not, but it's not like you can catch some type of disease just by touching them.

2. What would you do if someone approached you with a camera and asked you to participate in a photo shoot and then asked you to touch a stranger?
I would probably agree with the whole plan. I wouldn't mind touching a stranger. Yeah it might sound weird at first but come on, it should be a new experience in life!

3. Think of an unusual photo shoot similar to this one that you think would be fun to go and shoot.
An unusual photo shoot that would be fun to go to is one that you would get to go around with a camera and ask random people to take pictures doing some weird things with strangers.

4. Finally, tell me what you thought of the photography, did the photographer think about the rules of photography that you know about? What types of photos did he take?
The photographs were alright, although the photographer didn't quite think about the rules of photography, they weren't careful on avoiding mergers, and being simple with the pictures, also the photographer wasn't very good with the rule of thirds. He took photos all from the same angle and they were all informal environmental photographs.

Part 2

1. Describe one photo that you agree with the judges on. Explain why you and the judges do or do not like it.
I agree with the judges on the photograph of the tennis player with the racquet and her face isn't showing. I agree with them because the photograph is a beautiful picture, although you can't see the face, it's still a great photograph!

2. Describe one photo that you do NOT agree with the judges on. Explain why you think the judges are wrong.
I disagree with the judges on the photograph of the baseball player and it only shows him, and not the other person in the picture because it looks like a shadow.

Sports/Action more details

~Name of photographer - Travis Haughton
~General focus of portfolio - Photo story
~List three problems -
1. The focus on the photograph of the head phones and the boy was not so great.
2. The photographer wasn't very careful avoiding mergers on the photograph of the girl hugging the guy.
3. They would like to see the face of the coach on the picture were the player is picking up the coach.
~List two things the judges like-
1. They like that the girl is climbing the rope on the gymnastics photograph.
2. The photograph of the baseball throwing himself down to catch the baseball. They liked everything about it.
~What is your overall impression? What did you like or not like? - My overall expression is that the photographs were alright, They were a lot that were Photoshopped and the quality on some photos was very unprofessional.

Winner: Dustin Snipes
What did the judges note as strengths as they were critiquing it?
They noticed that the photographer was shooting the photos up close and they really liked that.

What do you see as strengths? Do you see any weaknesses?
The photographer was using great focus and the fact that he was up close with the subjects, it just made it even better. The only weakness that I saw was that one photograph of the baseball guy, it was Photoshopped way too much.

--------------------------------------------
They had to eliminate each contestant one by one, even though they would have wished to pick seconds, they had to only choose one portfolio. At the end they all agreed to the one person who had no bad pictures in their portfolio.

Japanese Earthquake

I feel like the woman in this photo is suffering, she could have been depressed from the tragedy. When I look at this photograph I feel worried, shocked, amused knowing that something so terrible like this happened and they were all victims of the tsunami.
The photographer used good simplicity, not too much going on, and did a good job avoiding mergers. He might have focused the camera on the woman so the background of the picture wouldn't distract the viewer from the main point.

When I first saw this picture it gave me and irony because the way the smoke is shaped looks like a rainbow, but it's actually smoke. Rainbows are friendly, kind, joyful, but on the other hand smoke is dangerous, killing, horrible ; this picture creates a good point of view for the viewer. The photograph grabs the viewers attention quickly making the viewer actually want to know about the picture.
The photographer was great avoiding mergers, and a good point of view.

This photograph gives emotion, team work is needed for this horrible occasion. I feel like this photo gives a sad vibe. Team work is needed at every moment.
The photographer used good focus, and great lighting.
