Architecture SHOOT preview assignment.

This photograph meets the expectations of detail, it shows the details of the building, such as the bricks and it's texture.
This photo meets the the criteria of light because it sets a good mood into the picture. This photograph also shows light going through a building with shadows.
In this picture it shows pattern, the building has horizontal lines that are around the building. I think it shows pattern because the horizontal lines are being used over and over throughout the building.
I think this photograph shows angles and shapes because the architecture of this building isn't just plain rectangles and squares, they're different shapes and sized creating a building. Although the door isn't rectangle, you can still distinguish the door from the building.

In this picture it is showing it's surroundings, not just a simple building. The picture is showing people in the city, meaning that the building behind the people isn't located in the middle of nowhere, it's actuarially in a city.

Caption and evaluation practice.

Flaming hands at a street entertainment

John Peterson is a local man who works at the corner of 7th avenue and Malibu road using fire as an entertainment for the people who pass by. Last Tuesday John was seen using a bottle like object with flaming smoke, although it may seem dangerous John manages to entertain the people without getting injured.

This photograph met the rule of thirds in such way that the subject in the photograph, in this case the man, isn't just in the center of the picture. It's bringing the viewers eye to a different prospective then just to the middle of the photo. Although it's a simple photograph, it has good background because it's blurred out helping the viewer not get distracted from it's original purpose.

In this photograph it has great viewpoint. It creates a good vanishing point, helping the viewer see the prospective on which the picture was taken. It not only seems like the front objects are popping out but it makes it look like there's more behind those mountains.

This picture shows a good frame in such way that the subject has a good position with the surroundings of the subject, and in this case it's the tip of the boat that's floating on the water. Although it also shows good cropping because the subject isn't being cut off and it's in a great position to be viewed fully.

Touching people

1. What do you think about this project and photo essay?
This project is actually really great. It's good that someone is making a project like this. I think that this project will do good on showing people that they shouldn't be uncomfortable with strangers ; yes they might be strangers and what not, but it's not like you can catch some type of disease just by touching them.

2. What would you do if someone approached you with a camera and asked you to participate in a photo shoot and then asked you to touch a stranger?
I would probably agree with the whole plan. I wouldn't mind touching a stranger. Yeah it might sound weird at first but come on, it should be a new experience in life!

3. Think of an unusual photo shoot similar to this one that you think would be fun to go and shoot.
An unusual photo shoot that would be fun to go to is one that you would get to go around with a camera and ask random people to take pictures doing some weird things with strangers.

4. Finally, tell me what you thought of the photography, did the photographer think about the rules of photography that you know about? What types of photos did he take?
The photographs were alright, although the photographer didn't quite think about the rules of photography, they weren't careful on avoiding mergers, and being simple with the pictures, also the photographer wasn't very good with the rule of thirds. He took photos all from the same angle and they were all informal environmental photographs.

Part 2

1. Describe one photo that you agree with the judges on. Explain why you and the judges do or do not like it.
I agree with the judges on the photograph of the tennis player with the racquet and her face isn't showing. I agree with them because the photograph is a beautiful picture, although you can't see the face, it's still a great photograph!

2. Describe one photo that you do NOT agree with the judges on. Explain why you think the judges are wrong.
I disagree with the judges on the photograph of the baseball player and it only shows him, and not the other person in the picture because it looks like a shadow.

Sports/Action more details

~Name of photographer - Travis Haughton
~General focus of portfolio - Photo story
~List three problems -
1. The focus on the photograph of the head phones and the boy was not so great.
2. The photographer wasn't very careful avoiding mergers on the photograph of the girl hugging the guy.
3. They would like to see the face of the coach on the picture were the player is picking up the coach.
~List two things the judges like-
1. They like that the girl is climbing the rope on the gymnastics photograph.
2. The photograph of the baseball throwing himself down to catch the baseball. They liked everything about it.
~What is your overall impression? What did you like or not like? - My overall expression is that the photographs were alright, They were a lot that were Photoshopped and the quality on some photos was very unprofessional.

--------------------------------------------
Winner: Dustin Snipes
What did the judges note as strengths as they were critiquing it?
They noticed that the photographer was shooting the photos up close and they really liked that.

What do you see as strengths? Do you see any weaknesses?
The photographer was using great focus and the fact that he was up close with the subjects, it just made it even better. The only weakness that I saw was that one photograph of the baseball guy, it was Photoshopped way too much.

--------------------------------------------
They had to eliminate each contestant one by one, even though they would have wished to pick seconds, they had to only choose one portfolio. At the end they all agreed to the one person who had no bad pictures in their portfolio.

Japanese Earthquake

I feel like the woman in this photo is suffering, she could have been depressed from the tragedy. When I look at this photograph I feel worried, shocked, amused knowing that something so terrible like this happened and they were all victims of the tsunami.
The photographer used good simplicity, not too much going on, and did a good job avoiding mergers. He might have focused the camera on the woman so the background of the picture wouldn't distract the viewer from the main point.

When I first saw this picture it gave me and irony because the way the smoke is shaped looks like a rainbow, but it's actually smoke. Rainbows are friendly, kind, joyful, but on the other hand smoke is dangerous, killing, horrible ; this picture creates a good point of view for the viewer. The photograph grabs the viewers attention quickly making the viewer actually want to know about the picture.
The photographer was great avoiding mergers, and a good point of view.

This photograph gives emotion, team work is needed for this horrible occasion. I feel like this photo gives a sad vibe. Team work is needed at every moment.
The photographer used good focus, and great lighting.

Magazine Covers.

I. Early Magazine Covers :
This selection is about the magazines back in the days, they weren't very detailed in such matter. They were quite simple , not revealing too much information of its content. Throughout the years the magazine covers began to have more detail on their subjects. At fist they were really simple with only the title , and the publication data. They didn't expose its what you would find inside the magazine.

II. The Poster Cover : Pictures That Need No Words.
In this selection, the magazines weren't used with much words. But usually the pictures didn't relate to the content of the magazine, they were just there to put a mood on their magazine cover. The covers were mostly illustrated, not photographed. But later on , the photographs became a little more realistic and not so much of illustrated. They have always used a picture for their magazine cover to attract it's viewers.

III. Pictures Married to Type.
This selection is about them using cover lines ; they used them to outline the pictures on their magazine covers. They traced the photographs with outer lines. Then they started using the Title being overlapped by some sort of subject ; also they started using better colors for the pictures. The cover also started having news, something they hadn't done before. They actually posted news on the cover to make the viewer more interested.

IV. In the Forest of Words.
In this selection they started using vivid photographs to catch the viewers eye. The cover and lining overlap each other creating a better view. The titles and news they put on the cover started to cover over and surround the subject on the photograph. The photograph were not only being overlapped by words and titles , but they were being overlapped by the cover lines.

Photoshop photographs.

This is my "happy" photograph. . .
I think this is a good example of my work for this subject. It relates to "happy" by showing good facial expressions in the person. It shows that they're happy, relating to it's subject.

This is my "building" portrait. . .
I believe this photograph shows the subject "building" perfectly for the reason that it's showing a building and it's surroundings.

This is my "Akins" picture. . .
I believe this picture relates very well to my subject since it has "W. Charles Akins High School" on it, making it relate more fluently to the criteria.

My holiday brake.

1. Well i sent New Years at my aunts house. It was pretty hectic that day. We planned it at the very last minute.

2. My resolutions for 2012 are to do better in school since I was slacking of a bit last semester. Also to get a job before the summer, i really don't wanna be asking my parents for money because they always make some sort of excuse on not giving me any, so now i want to be a bit more independent. I also hope to not get the problems get to me so bad, things tic me off really easy , so for this year i plan to stay more calm and relax a bit more.

3. In 2012 I'm looking forward to meeting new people. Many people said "New Year , New Me" , but in my case, i wouldn't consider me as a NEW me, i just consider myself as a better person who makes good choices in life now.  I'm really looking forward to this year, it seems like it's going to be a bit hectic , but I'm up for the challenge.

The five 2011 questions.

-Someone like you - Adele -
I chose this song because it pretty much explains how I felt in 2011. This song gives so much detail on the situation, and you can actually comprehend what she's trying to say. In my opinion on why it was the best of 2011 is because to me, it explained my thoughts and feelings during that year.

-The Royal Wedding-
In my opinion the most important new of the year was when Prince William married Catherine Middleton. Their wedding was like such big news for 2011. (Most important person of 2011 !!! )
I chose Bruno Mars as the most important person of 2011 for the reason that all the other people seemed some what boring to me.  -Drake-
The most entertainment person of 2011 would have to be Drake. He made some pretty good music in 2011, including his album "Take Care". That album had great songs. He himself is my favorite entertainment person. I know the question said sports or entertainment, so i chose entertainment. I consider a rapper and entertainment. Don't you ? Well, yeah he was the one i chose for most entertainment person. He had some songs in his album "Take Care" that really expressed my thoughts.

This is one of my favorite photos of the year because his facial expression gives a lot of detail to the setting of the photograph, and the angle from where the picture was taken is just great.

This is my second favorite photograph of the year for the reason that the point of view of the pictures is great, it has great rule of thirds and the photograph tells a whole lot of details from the setting of the picture.

This is my third favorite photograph of the year because the sky looks amazing, the photographer used great rule of thirds, and it has great view point.
